Girls Initiative for Future Transformation Scholarship (GIFTS) Project

At EMTAG Foundation, we are thrilled to announce the launch of our latest initiative, the Girls Initiative for Future Transformation Scholarship (GIFTS) Project. This groundbreaking project aims to uplift and empower underserved girls in the Ogbogba community, with quality education.

Goal

Our primary goal is to promote educational empowerment for underserved girls in the Ogbogba community.

Objectives

  1. Scholarship Provision: We aim to provide scholarships or financial aid in the form of school fee payments to post-primary/secondary school girls in Ogbogba. Our present budget for this project will determine the extent of the support we can offer. We are currently assessing whether we can provide full scholarships or support for specific terms. Sustainability is a key consideration, and we are committed to ensuring the longevity of our support beyond the initial phase of the project.

  2. Mentorship Program: Alongside the scholarships, we will establish a mentorship program to support the girls in their educational journey. This mentorship will encompass various aspects such as career talks, internship opportunities, and information about international scholarships. By providing guidance and support beyond financial aid, we aim to equip these girls with the tools they need to excel academically and professionally.

  3. Educational Material Provision: We understand the importance of access to educational resources. Therefore, we will also be providing essential educational materials to the girls, ensuring they have everything they need to succeed in their studies.

  4. Promotion of Gender Equality: Through our intervention, we seek to promote gender equality in education within the Ogbogba community. By raising awareness and engaging with community members, we hope to break down barriers and create a more inclusive educational environment for all.

Girls Initiative for Future Transformation Scholarship (GIFTS) Project: Empowering Girls, Transforming Lives

At EMTAG Foundation, we are proud to celebrate the successful implementation of the Girls Initiative for Future Transformation Scholarship (GIFTS) Project in the Ogbogba community, Kogi State. This transformative initiative was designed to empower underserved girls through quality education and holistic support, marking a significant step towards fostering gender equality and community development.

Project Goals and Achievements

The GIFTS Project aimed to empower girls with:

  • Scholarships: 26 girls from Ogbogba were awarded tuition support for the new school term, with 18 in senior secondary, 6 in junior secondary, and 2 in primary school. An exceptional male primary school applicant also benefited, making the total number of beneficiaries 27.
  • Mentorship: A mentorship programme was established to provide career guidance, internship opportunities, and insights into global education prospects.
  • Community Awareness: Through the project, the value of educating girls was reinforced, fostering greater acceptance of gender equality in education.

Community Impact

The award ceremony, held on 13th September 2024, at Community Secondary School, Ogbogba, was a testament to the community’s enthusiasm and support for this initiative. Leaders such as Chief Yakubu Salifu Cna, the Oga Ata Ogbogba, and representatives from the Community Development Association lauded the project for alleviating financial burdens and inspiring families to prioritise girls’ education.

Parents and beneficiaries shared heartfelt testimonies about the transformative impact of the GIFTS Project. Mrs. Veronica Sunday, a mother of one of the beneficiaries, expressed her gratitude, stating, “This project gives my daughter the opportunities I never had.”

Leadership and Dedication

The GIFTS Project was spearheaded by EMTAG founder Solace Ojotule Okeyi, a passionate advocate for girls’ education. Reflecting on her journey, Solace shared, “This initiative is my way of giving back to Nigeria and advancing the global cause of girl-child education.”

Programme Director Peter Ogohi Salifu and a dedicated team of volunteers ensured the project’s seamless execution, engaging the community and emphasising the importance of inclusive education. Volunteers like Victoria Enyojo John, Edem Perpetual Odinaka, and Hamza Manga played vital roles in ensuring the project’s success.

Looking Ahead

As the GIFTS Project concludes its first phase, EMTAG Foundation remains committed to sustaining its impact. Through continuous mentorship, follow-up support, and collaboration with like-minded organisations, we aim to expand the programme’s reach and transform more lives.
